From 65 to Pedal to the Metal

I’ve been described as being down to Earth.  I was never running around like a chicken with its head cut off nor was I the one who rocked the boat.  Honestly, I was your common garden variety always taking the path of least resistance and going with the flow.  To me, everything was all in a day’s work, plain and simple.  That was until I decided to hunker down and take the road less traveled.  There was no defining moment that made me change my tune, but here’s my story.  I was born and raised in suburbia.  Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise was how I lived.  From a very early age, I was taught that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush and it’s better to be safe than sorry.  I was schooled at a run of the mill elementary and high school where I did okay.  Born with a silver spoon in my mouth, my parents kept me a busy bee with activities ranging from Karate to Boy Scouts.  Straight out of high school, I went with my gut and attended community college because I didn’t know where I stood.  This is when I looked into my heart, aimed for the moon, and took the bull by the horns.  Instead of following in the footsteps of my friends who all transferred to the same university, I was the odd one out who transferred to a school 500 miles from home.  Starting on all cylinders, I hit the ground running, going the whole nine yards to do well.  I turned over a new leaf realizing nothing ventured, nothing gained.  I have to fake it until I make it and not look back.  Today I reach for the stars, only going for broke.  The plan after I graduate is to head to a land far, far away that’s known as being a playground for the rich and famous.  Stay tuned for the next installment!
